Diethylmethylbenzamide is abbreviated as DEET, and its chemical name is diethyltoluamide. It is a broad-spectrum insect repellant. Chiggers, deer flies, fleas, gnats, horse flies, mosquitoes, sand flies, flies, stable flies and ticks. The World Health Organization also recommends the use of repellent products containing DEET to prevent the infestation of vector insects. Often used in combination with other insecticides, but its toxicity is enhanced when mixed with carbamate insecticides.
